The story of a Girls Struggle-A Choice For Freedom

News Release, Western Canada Concept Party

February 20, 1998

A certain girl, upon reaching the age of adulthood, desired to leave her family and go out on her own to live. Her brothers and sisters, of whom she had nine, objected loudly. "She cannot leave us to pay the mortgage all alone." "She cannot leave us and still maintain her share in the family real-estate." "She must ask our father if she can leave and under what terms."

Her father was a judge and her mother was a very submissive wife. So a family meeting was called at which she refused to attend. She said her future was hers to decide and no one else's. The meeting was held without her. The brothers and sisters pleaded with the father: "Tell her she may not leave without our permission." "Tell her she must return all the money we spent on her while she was growing up." "Tell her she can only have that part of the real-estate which was in the family when she was born." "Tell her she may not return again to our house under any circumstances." "Tell her she has no right to leave unless we all agree or at least the majority of us agree." "Tell her she must not use any money that we have given her in the past." "Tell her we will not defend her." "Tell her we will not speak to her nor allow any communications from her ever again."

In brief they asked the father to punish her love of freedom because they were jealous and resented her for the initiative she had.

The father was very much obliged and indebted to his children because he really did no work of his own but rather lived off the wages of his children. He was only too glad to stop his eldest daughter's move since he could see the end of the support he had received if she succeeded in her plans. For her part the daughter left and vowed never to return saying she thought a family was based on love and not on slavery.

"The more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew" Ex 1:12
