The Western Separatist Papers Index

(updated: 17/01/2006 )

This is the original "Milk Cow" cartoon, which has been prolific in many different versions throughout the history of Western Canada, since it was originated in 1915 by Winnipeg cartoonist, Arch Dale, for the Grain Growers Guide of December 15, 1915. It -- and many other such cartoons -- demonstrates that the grievances of Western Canada are not new, but have existed as long as the West has been part of Canada.

The Western Separatist Papers is a monthly newsletter published to members of the Western Canada Concept. It was started in September of 1983 as a vehicle for the papers written and presented by the Victoria Western Canada Concept study group, which met weekly to discuss aspects of the situation and aspirations of Western Canadian nationalists.

The name "Western Separatist" was chosen at that time in defiance of those who claimed that "separation" was a "bad word". Separation refers to the lawful, peaceful, political process of achieving independence for the four Western Canadian provinces, by way of referendum.

This collection of Papers at present reaches back to 1994, from the present, however we hope to have a complete archive of WSPs available at this site, eventually. This collection is searchable.
